Adam was the founding architect of the Green Star Communities rating scheme, Australia's first tool for defining and assessing the sustainability performance of precincts and neighbourhoods.
During his 2.5 year tenure at the Green Building Council of Australia he built the original scope of the rating tool, convened and facilitated the working groups, raised the sponsorship and stewarded the first PILOT version of the tool to market.
The tool provides government and industry with a comprehensive framework for assessing the sustainability of precincts and communities. It focuses on environmental, social, and economic factors to create resilient, liveable, and prosperous communities. Projects are evaluated across key areas such as governance, liveability, environmental performance, economic prosperity, and innovation.
This rating system encourages efficient resource use, climate resilience, community inclusiveness, and economic growth. It also promotes leadership in sustainability through innovative approaches and solutions. Communities can earn 4-Star, 5-Star, or 6-Star certifications based on their performance, with a 6-Star rating representing world-leading sustainability practices.
Designed to ensure long-term viability, Green Star Communities places people and their well-being at the center of development. It fosters collaboration between stakeholders, encourages adaptive solutions for future challenges, and emphasises continuous improvement to maintain sustainability outcomes over time.
